Around this time every year, we look through our closets and pack away our winter clothes to put our summer clothes back into the spotlight. And when we put our shoes in the closet for the warmer months, it can only mean one thing: your favorite shoes are back. Putting your trendy shoes on your feet signals the start of a new season—one filled with evening walks, mornings spent at the farmers market, and patio drinks.
It’s always fun to see what new shoe trends each summer brings—especially when they include the odd ones from our pasts (looking at you, jelly shoes !). As reliable as your tried-and-true slideshow can be, the shoe trends of summer 2023 are too good to resist. It’s time to book that pedicure, swap your jeans for denim shorts, and let your shoes shine in your next shoe collection. Before adding a new pair to your wardrobe this season, take a look at the shoe styles of summer 2023.
1. Raffia
Raffia is summery, but it’s about to get bigger this summer. That style has made its way into our favorite apps, e.g earrings, head covering, and lucky for us, the shoes never end. Imagine throwing on your favorite linen pants and letting the look of these raffia shoes do all the talking. Imagine that we are working hard.
2. Buckles & two straps
Similar to Birkenstocks, but not quite, these two-strap sandals are the perfect twist on your ultimate walking shoe. This summer, glittery embellishments and glittery ankle boots take them from your running shoes to your go-to on the town every time you step out. house. Take it from our fashion editor herself, who wore both outfits around Europe for two whole weeks. These shoes offer comfort, style, and inevitably will come with people asking,Where did you get those?”
3. Sore feet
We’ve seen tools that blow across a lot of speed over the last few years – looking at you in particular, Bottega and Teacher– and practice has made its way to the shoes. Add a little bounce to your step this summer with a pair of sandals. Both are cool and trendy, they’re fun, and remind us of the Floatie legs we had back in our youth.
4. High flip-flops
From Havaianas to Rainbows, we all have our loyal pair of flip-flops that we slip on and wear everywhere (probably pulled from the wall of $2 pairs at Old Navy). Although you may not have reached a pair in a few years, the updated version changes the look of the classic flip-flop to take them from the date line to the lift. With new textures and silhouettes, your temporary foam flip-flop has become one that will last a lifetime.
5. Just have a strap
Gladiator-esque boots are back in a new way. With a long, leather, strapless, these shoes will be by your side on every trip this summer. With little effort but maximum chicness, they seem plucked straight from Olson Twin Room. If you close your eyes, you can almost picture yourself on a European vacation with these pairs wrapped around your ankles.
6. Cross the criss-cross
Could crossover shoes be the new slider? Crossover shoes are a versatile new classic that we can’t help but want to wear everywhere. With a platform, heel, or flat style, this shoe can be worn either casually or elegantly – and it’s a great way to choose whether or not if you are looking for something to wear for years.
7. Types of fish
Fisherman’s shoes made a comeback last summer, and this year they’re looking to be seen on the best feet of all time. Although they can be considered an “ugly” trend (kind of like the father of the sneakers craze), they really shine when paired with a mini dress. Credits to these water-inspired styles – rope and wicker tote, anyone?
