Let me start this off by introducing myself: I’m Madeline, the Fashion Editor of Every Magazine. I’ve been in the fashion industry since 2021, and my work takes up a lot of my brain at any given time (that’s with my 16-year-old dog, if I’m real). I love writing and speaking about fashion for a living—it’s my dream to do, which makes it easy to incorporate every fiber of my being into our fashion department. Part of my job as our fashion editor is to try out clothes from different brands to make sure we’re covering the best. TL;DR: I’m trying this many of clothing.
One of my duties as our fashion editor? Writing and putting together our capsule wardrobes. I recently realized a beautiful wild truth: I never talked about mine capsule wardrobe. I’ve been creating my own capsule wardrobe for years, and given the clothes I try on, if something sticks to me, it really is. of course very well.
I like to add style to my clothes, but I also have an arsenal of things that I use to build my outfits every day. These head pieces are the best of the best; Things I own, research, and wear regularly in my daily life. Without further ado, I open my closet door and break out my capsule wardrobe.
To work in a coffee shop
sunglasses | button up | denim skirt | ballet studio
If I’m having a day where I want to get ready and still keep it casual, this is usually what I wear. This button-up is one of my favorite pieces of all time; it is thicker on the side, which means that there is no wrinkle throughout the day, and I’m very happy that I finally put in one nice button-up so that I don’t have to replace them.
These denim shorts are what I would consider perfect. They are long and looser on the side, but do not stretch throughout the day, and I put mine on literally almost every day in the summer months. I’ve had mine for two years and was excited to pull them out of storage this year.
Celine Triomphe sunglasses are one of my biggest splurges, but I don’t regret any of them – quite the opposite, in fact. They are a classic, oversized pair that look great with any outfit, and I wear mine every day. Out of the many sunglasses, this is my favorite pair. Using my favorite ballet flats (which I have in two colors!), it’s a casual, fitted style that I wear on repeat.
Then dinner on the patio
puff earrings | maxi dress | bag | heel shoes
If you’ve been around for a while, you know that my love for the Staud Beaded Tommy bag knows no bounds. I like to have fun with my gear, but this is fun and you can use a bag. I have one that I use in the winter months (with dark florals) and one that I wear in the summer (with oranges in it), and when that was no longer available, I found this fruit salad love more. Case in point: How to rock this simple maxi dress and heels combo—perfect for a night on the patio with a glass of rosé.
It drives me crazy Jenny Bird jewelry, and these puff earrings are one of my favorite pieces of jewelry. They bring little more than my feet, and I’ve been rubbing my ears since the day I got them.
To work from home
shirt | gym clothes | shoes
I work from home three days a week, but I still like to wear some clothes to boost my productivity. My go-to in the summer months is gym clothes. I have it in three colors, and love that it makes me feel more put together than running short on a tank, but it’s good. I’m happy that it can carry me to whatever I’m going to do that day (like jogging or walking my dog) without a problem.
I’m a sneaker girl through and through, and these New Balances are my favorite of the year. While I wait for my size to come back in stock, I now have them in two colors and wear them on repeat. I wear sweats almost every day, so I grabbed the Anine Bing that was on sale last year, and wear it several times a week. It’s really a splurge, but it’s worth it given that I think it makes any casual outfit a little bit colder (I especially like to wear it with jeans and a blazer sometimes the weather is cold).
Happy hour
bodysuit | jeans | shoulder bag | heel shoes
Listen: I never expected to be a member of SKIMS. But after testing many bodysuits, the SKIMS are the ones that — in my humble opinion — stand in a league of their own. I have three different types, but this is my favorite; Honestly, I don’t know if I’ve ever put more fun into my life. I find that they support so well that I don’t need to wear a bra with them, which is useless to me, TBH.
These relaxed jeans are my favorite jeans of the year. They’re sweet, comfortable, and have that perfect body that’s not too wide but not too tight that I thought at first like I couldn’t find. When I went to Europe last month, these were the only jeans I packed, which says it all. This is another Staud bag that is a staple in my wardrobe. It’s the perfect size, it’s a different style, I wear it both casually and casually.
I struggle with heels, but these little kitten boots are the perfect high heels for summer, and will be one of my most worn boots of 2022. I can walk walk in them for hours, and I like that they can be. wear a top or bottom depending on the vibe I want that day.
To run
White tank | shoulder bag | denim skirt | Birken business
I’m a Birkenstock girl in my head. I grew up with my grandmother swearing by Birkenstocks, I’ve had a pair since I was little. That being said, these are my favorite pairs that I’ve ever owned (and again, I have them in two colors). They don’t want to spread out like the classic Birks (and thank God for that), and the gold makes them feel a little higher than the classic Birkenstocks. These are the shoes I keep by my door in the summer, and I wear them to run or walk my dog or go to gym class—which means I -put them on my feet every day.
If I’m having a casual day in the summer months, a white tank, denim skirt, and these Birkenstocks are on me, no question.
