Bridgerton Fans, I have news: the writer behind the series, Julia Quinn, loves the show as much as we do. I had the opportunity to speak with the author of the book Bridgerton a book about his new book Queen Charlotteco-written with Shonda Rhimes and based on the Netflix series Queen Charlotte: The Bridgerton Story.
I knew immediately that I loved Julia when we briefly discussed the light in our room and participated in the relocation meeting. If that can’t be explained, I don’t know what is. She also loves Taylor Swift’s music, and is excited to see her books come to life for her fans, and brings out the same kind of humor that one finds in look at his book. All that I did not expect at all, or it is always wonderful to meet someone who argues with the definition of success, but is clearly full of themselves.
In our conversation, I learned all about Julia’s creative process Queen Charlotteincluding a collaboration between Julia and Shonda, who is a producer, showrunner, and writer for the series on Netflix, and executive producer for the first two seasons of Bridgerton. So, for everyone Bridgerton Fans new and old, here’s everything I found out:
Julia Quinn and Shonda Rhimes
Queen Charlotte: Before the Bridgertons came a love story that changed the tone…
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn and television pioneer Shonda Rhimes comes the powerful and romantic novel of Bridgerton’s epic love story of Queen Charlotte and King George III and how it sparked change. public, from the original system. Queen Charlotte: The Bridgerton Storyproduced by Shondaland for Netflix.
How the idea for the book started
When the first two are determined Bridgerton series inspired by Julia book, not made for Queen Charlotte. Queen Charlotte’s character is not in the original book. Julia recalled, “I called Shonda on the phone and said that they were going to do this about Queen Charlotte, the prequel, and I was completely shocked … I was surprised and happy. I love the character of Queen Charlotte. She amazing.” Once the media system worked, the book was something that both Shonda and Julia were interested in pursuing. Although they had spoken many times, due to the epidemic, the first time Julia and Shonda met was that Bridgerton Second start time. It’s wild to think these two haven’t met in a long time, given all the amazing gifts they’ve given us as partners. I really would like to be a fly on the wall for their first meeting.
That day, Julia expressed her desire to write a book about him Queen Charlotte: The Bridgerton Story, and later found out that Shonda was thinking the same thing. It will be a new challenge for Julia—writing a book based on a show is something that has never been done well before. Julia added, “We want to make sure that people understand (the book) is not an essay with only a few words added. It is really a complete novel. But I started doing research.” Julia could only find a few examples where a similar creative process happened, and most of them were in the superhero world. (Since Bridgerton is now a Bridger-verse, a term often used for fantasy or worldly heroes, this seems to fit.) And then in a very gentle way, Julia added, “So, in That moment, I realized, well, people can say that I did it. Bad, but no one can say that I did it wrong. Because it doesn’t exist.”
How collaboration and documentation work
The first thing Julia got for reference was an essay. He explained, “In terms of how the collaboration went, it was each of us taking our time. We weren’t gathered in a room coming up with ideas. (Shonda) wrote the scripts and submitted them. And they said, ‘You do your thing, I don’t know how to write a newspaper, but you do.’ Which was just like me handing him the papers and saying, ‘You’re doing your thing. I don’t know how to write a movie, but you’re doing it.’ So, it’s an incredible feeling for me that I feel respected by everyone I care about.”
Julia said that throughout the writing process, she and Shonda would review major decisions to make sure they were consistent. For example, the book focuses on the first timeline and the experiences of the characters of Charlotte, George, Agatha, and Brimsley. The reason for this? “I think there are things that work well in movies that don’t work well in books and vice versa,” Julia said.
The manuscript informed the book in many ways. Some of Brimsley’s monologues in the book were inspired, for example. I love hearing Julia talk about Young Brimsley—she loves all of his characters. He said of Brimsley, “I feel like he lives in a constant state of terror on the road.” Julia said that in the script, there is a place where Brimsley is looking for Charlotte and describes her as trying to walk fast and trying not to attract any attention. The stage directions are the main source for Young Brimsley’s chapter. Once the book was finished, Julia gave it to Shonda to show that she was explaining everything in the script correctly. And with that, the book we are all reading now was created.
How to get into (some of) the real history
One of the book’s opening pages has a simple blurb that states in part that the book “is not a history lesson. It’s fiction based on fact.” As some of the characters are real figures in history, namely King George and Queen Charlotte, viewers and readers may wonder how history played a role. in creating stories. Julia explained, “For the most part I looked at the history that was already included in the script and tried to learn more about them so that I could feel those things, instead of adding other things.” As with many of the historical references she uses in the setting of the script, Julia follows in Shonda’s footsteps. However, there are a few historical details that Julia adds to the book.
On the show, Shonda revealed the fact that Charlotte is a German Princess from Mecklenburg-Strelitz, a territory in Northern Germany. German is Queen Charlotte’s first language. Although we don’t hear Charlotte speak German in the movie, there are many references in the book about Charlotte’s favorite German words, her frustration when she can’t communicate as well as she could. his liking, or his desire to create a long German word to describe a. situation.
Also, according to Shonda’s research, George III is real He liked astronomy and build an observatory on the ground. The transit of Venus, which is very important to King George’s character in the show, too actually happened in time and King George and Queen Charlotte lived. Although we do not know if the historical George never saw it, Julia did a little research on the Transit of Venus to put it in the book and make sure that his interest in the sky passed. Readers may notice that when George talks about numbers in those chapters, they are talking specifically about the transit days of Venus that occur in history.
So, at that time, I understood that people can say that I did it well, but no one can say that I did it. Because it doesn’t exist.
How young Charlotte is
At first the two were destined BridgertonQueen Charlotte is regal, powerful, and very involved in matchmaking tons. It is often the main part of the comedy season, it is hard for us to see the weak part. I asked Julia what it was like to switch the mindset of Young Charlotte from the Queen Charlotte we already know on screen. Julia said that Shonda calls Queen Charlotte “Beyoncé of Regency times” and most importantly the readers should see that Charlotte is growing the kernel of what she will become.
Julia said of Charlotte, “She’s confident and stubborn and she’s got it, she’s bright, but she doesn’t know herself. I mean, she’s a teenager, and you can see how she manages find his place and find his strength.” Julia did a great job of showing the real moments where Charlotte is honestly frustrated, hurt, and knowing that she needs to take care of herself. Readers will also see the light of humor in young Charlotte that is familiar to the Queen of other years. About that, Julia said, “I don’t think I could write a book without humor in it. I mean, it’s kind of how I see the world. I think love is a funny thing. “
Like Taylor Swift’s “You’re On Your Own, Baby” midnight inspired the book
Yes, Julia is a fan of Taylor Swift and I love hearing it. Every book Julia writes has a soundtrack, and “You See Yourself, Baby” inspired her for that. Queen Charlotte. Julia said, “I love that song and it’s true… there’s this whole thing about ‘we’re one crown’ and you know what, it’s on its own, baby. It’s going to stand on its own. she, taking care of herself, and taking care of herself means looking out for her husband because she knows that she can’t do that. This made me immediately want to go and listen to her. midnight and calculate that a Bridgerton book.
I don’t think I could write a book without humor in it. I mean, it’s kind of how I see the world. I think love is a funny thing.
What is it like to see his book still alive
Talking to Julia was like talking to a friend about what I was inspired by and proud of. It has been more than two decades since the first one Bridgerton book published, and seeing his journey since then is nothing short of amazing. When Julia was asked about seeing her book on screen, Julia said, “Seeing my book come to life is amazing. It’s as simple and silly and beautiful as you can imagine. I’m not much of a visual writer so I wanted to see visual beauty that is Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte amazing.” And what’s even more fun for Julia is the existence of Bridger-Verse and all that it entails. She said it’s fun to have a verse. And we talked about how Bridgerton has become a huge part of pop culture and all the different worlds spread within it.
At that moment, Julia came up to show me a surprise Queen Charlotte The Lacoste baseball cap he got. He went on to add, “It’s still heartbreaking. Every time I would be like, how did that happen? It’s not just a commodity, but a commodity is something tangible that you can define and be like, this is wealth. “Julia also said that she likes to see the relationship between her fans and her Instagram and Facebook, especially when the first readers of the books hear about the movie. Julia told me, “People come up and say things like, ‘It’s amazing that I love the fact that I was a fan before the show, and I feel like I’m and a secret club, and we’re in it. First?'” He continued, “It’s so fun, how (the fans) all become me as a person.” That kind of summed up my feelings about talking to Julia Quinn. I’m so happy for her, Shonda Rhimes, and the entire crew Queen Charlotte. I am grateful that the stories from his imagination became the Bridger verse that every Gentle Reader dreams of.
