Summer is so close we can taste it. Rooftops and patios are calling our names, our summer boots are itching for their first time out of season, and our denim skirts are begging to be removed for their first time.
I’m already getting a summer coat out of my head, and with that, my new way to rock my tried and true denim shorts. However, every summer, it doesn’t take long to feel like my denim skirt is a little… over and over again. I know I can’t be the only one who stares at other people in public to see what they’re wearing with their denim shorts. (Sorry, not being a creep! Just wanted outfit inspo xoxo).
If you too are looking for a new way to wear your denim skirt, you have come to the right place. From our new, unexpected summer staples to our go-to staples, we’ve rounded up all our favorite ways to style a denim skirt this summer.
1. In a white tank and cowboy boots
When in doubt, combine a new behavior and classic. If cowboy boots aren’t in your weekly rotation, they need to be. Don’t stop yours in the fall and winter; they look ultra-chic with a pair of denim cut-offs in the warmer months, too. Throw in a simple white tank to complete the look.
2. In stripes and sneakers
Give the branded sweater a break for the season and pull out a branded tee or sweatshirt to wear on repeat. Paired with a pair of Converse, this outfit is perfect for having coffee with a friend or going out on a summer day.
3. With a blazer and dad sneakers
By now, we know that a blazer can go with anything, that includes your denim skirt. Keep it cool by pairing it with your favorite sneakers, or take it from day to night by swapping your sandals for heels instead.
4. On the top cover
Break away from the shorts and tank tops and try yours with a tank top instead. It will bring a little extra oomph with your dress, and make your shorts suitable for a date night or dinner with friends – especially when paired with platform shoes.
5. In the painting tank
Add a little *spice* some detail to the simple look and graphic tank top. They are easy to find (or thrift!) and are reliable on days when you want to look good with little effort. With a raffia bag and your favorite sunnies, it’s the perfect, laid-back weekend outfit.
6. White button-up
It’s a no-brainer that your white button-down goes well with a denim skirt, and the beauty of it is how you can customize the look depending on how you style it. Wear it buttoned and half tucked for a look for a day, or leave it unbuttoned over a bikini top if you’re going to the pool or beach for the day.
7. In a bell shirt
If you’re looking to make your wardrobe a little more stylish, a bell-bottom shirt is your best bet. It will give a ’70s-esque, Daisy Jones– a feeling inspired by the look, which will be combined with the beach, changing the hair in the middle of July.
8. In a bodysuit with a button-up
What’s this? Nothing—just our summer clothes, really. The dress that is placed in the denim skirt is a bad combination, especially for a day when the temperature is hot. Paired with button-down and raffia accessories, the duo is made to be worn on the perfect vacation (or if you’re pretending to be in one).
